BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEMBERSHIP POLICY STATEMENT
REGULAR FAMILY MEMBERSHIP
This is the basic membership category. Family status shall be presumed for the husband and wife, their unmarried children under age 23 who reside permanently in the member's home, and grandparents. Any child of a member, regardless of marital status, who attains the age of 23 during the calendar year shall be considered as a guest, must be registered and paid for as such, may be denied admission on special club function days, and must be accompained by the sponsor. A married child, regardless of residence or age, must be regarded as a guest. Separated or divorced children who reenter the household, including any offspring, will be admitted as members, subject to the age limitation above.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
Associate membership is intended for single people, or for former Family Members who are widows or widowers. In rare cases, where a spouse is disabled and does not make use of the club, the Board, upon petition by a member, may grant this status. All persons, including family members of the Associate, will be considered as guests, must be accompanied by the sponsor, must be registered and paid for and may be denied admission on special club function days. This membership classification is not intended for and will not be granted to any person who normally would qualify for Family Membership. Infrequent use of the club by spouse or children is not a valid qualification for Associate Membership. Associate Members pay one half of all annual fees, membership shares and assessments.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP
Life Membership is intended to permit long standing members with grown families to continue to enjoy the club despite declining usage. The member must have been a Family Member in good standing for ten consecutive years prior to conversion and all children must be at least seventeen years of age. It is a voluntary membership election by the member and should be carefully considered since the member forfeits his Club Membership Share of $1000 upon conversion. Since all family members except the husband and wife are considered as guests, they may be denied admission on special Club function days, must be registered and paid for, and must be accompanied by the sponsor at all times. Even though a member may be eligible for Life Membership, the specific family situation may not make this a desirable alternative to Family Membership. Life members pay one half of all fees and assessments.
MEMBERSHIP BEQUESTS
Family Members may exercise a one time option to transfer their membership to any one of their children who otherwise qualify for Family Membership. The former Family Member may then enter the club as a "grandparent" and enjoy full membership privileges. The child who receives this membership will be afforded immediate membership without regard to any waiting list, will retain the same membership number which was assigned to the parent and will otherwise become the Family Member of record for payment and voting. The standard initiation fee will be charged at the time of transfer, and the parent will have to execute an assignment of his membership share to the succeeding Family Member. Longevity of the parent will not accrue to the child for purposes of achieving Life Membership.
MEMBERSHIP SABBATICAL
Members may request, as a result of travel plans, temporary relocations or other family requirements, a suspension of their membership privileges for a period of one year. Upon approval by the Board, the member will forefeit all membership privileges for a full operating season, but will be entitled to regain full membership for the following season upon notification and payment of fees, without regard to any waiting list then in effect. One or more extensions may be granted upon request. The burden is on the member to keep the club informed of his status. Requests for sabbatical status, and return to active membership should be made by April 1 of each year. The member's number may be reassigned. Failure to notify the club of status and current address, or failure to respond to notices for a period of one year will be presumptive evidence of resignation. For each year of such status, a fee of $50 will be charged and should be included with an application for a sabbatical or for an extension of sabbatical status.
DISCRETION OF THE BOARD
Club rules (V1d) provide: "Any question relating to classes of membership, family unit, or dependency, shall be resolved by the Board of Directors at its sole discretion".
