The West Nyack Swim & Tennis Club, founded in 1967, is a member-owned, not for profit corporation, comprised of a maximum of 400 active owner-families. The Club is located on over 20 acres of beautiful wooded property at the end of Castle Hill Lane in West Nyack. Castle Hill Lane is off Germonds Road, between Aberdeen Drive and Huested Lane, about 300 yards north of Demarest Mill Road which is the entrance to Clarkstown South High School.
The Club facilities include an Olympic style swimming pool with a 25 meter racing course, one and three meter diving boards, and a 40 by 150 foot recreational swim area. A separate kiddie pool provides for our future Olympians in diapers. Six fine tennis courts in a beautiful setting are available from April through October. Basketball, volleyball, horseshoes and kiddie game areas also are available. A large deck with sweeping views of the club is available free of charge to members who may want to plan a special party. Grandparents enjoy full membership privileges.
Members enjoy our four-acre enclosed, shaded picnic area, 60 picnic tables, 20 charcoal grills, and over 800 top quality, comfortable chairs, many with umbrellas. A bath house with shower facilities, attended office, and our snack bar which offers hot and cold food at subsidized prices is also available. Private parking for over 200 cars is provided.
The Club is proud of its services to members, including group tennis instruction for all age groups, diving instruction for interested children, CPR and First Aid instruction, and the full range of American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety courses taught by qualified instructors, all at no extra cost. Careful attention to pool safety is assured by our staff of certificated and CPR qualified lifeguards. Several day and evening youth and adult parties are scheduled throughout the year.
Perhaps our proudest accomplishment is the heritage of fine swimmers which our competitive swim team has produced over the years. West Nyack has been the perennial champion of the large and active Rockland County Summer Swim League. As our children advance from our developmental program to the B team (instructional and competitive) and the A team (competitive with moderate conditioning), they develop the skills which have made Rockland County a traditional power in New York State Interscholastic competition. We are proud to have started numerous national class swimmers on their way. If your child has the interest or ability, our professional coaching staff will develop it, all at no additional cost to you.
The Club is governed by a twelve member Board of Directors, who are elected at the annual spring meeting. By-laws and rules governing conduct while at the Club provide a workable structure to insure a pleasant and safe atmosphere. Mature, full time managers administer a staff of non-member life guards, maintenance workers and the snack bar staff.
Our operating season for the pools starts with the Memorial Day weekend and extends through the weekend after Labor Day. The pool day extends from 10AM until dusk, with a Noon opening on Sunday. During periods when school is in session, the pool opens at 3 PM. Full member services are available during the summer season. The tennis courts have an extended season from April through October, but the services of the tennis pro and staff coincide with the summer season.
Tours of the Club are usually scheduled on weekends in May and are available at any time that the Club is open during the summer season. Visits can be arranged by calling the Club telephone, 623-2331. Since the Club is private, we do not have any signs on Germonds Road. Call for directions, or better yet, come over with a member.
